in Week 6 and 7 we briefly discussed gender roles and social media. during lockdown, I noticed that there was a rise in LGBTQ stuff in the markets. This is partly due to social media marketing. I live in NJ. In June, there are LGBTQ rainbow flags and advertisements promising deals in apparel. LGBTQ sales and advertising is only really recent. This was not around when I was a child (born in the 90s).
Many people shop online, so it’s easier to find niche clothing, like “pride apparel”. As a result, more “pride consumers” become interconnected due to the online buying. I noted that most pride apparel is not very expensive. Therefore, it is more accessible to everyday consumers. More sales and cheap advertising for the company that carries that apparel.
Yes, you can find this at Walmart.
Surprisingly, the LGBTQ issue has something to do with "equality" issues also...
(The rainbow flag is even present on our state capital. Apparently, it seems as important as the POWMIA flag and American flag!)
This arose when the public became more connected to people of differing gender and sexual identities. I noted that LGBTQ issues are also becoming mainstream in other countries. This is a byproduct of an interconnected world.

A side note: The word “internet“ should be translated as an interconnected web of digital users who share information via language, symbols and pictures.
